Abstract
The term sustainable tourism has become the trending term for everyone. This is the major concern for the government as part of its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) compliance efforts, every sector of world is contributing toward sustainability. Prime Minister of India, the sentiment of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, aur Sabka Prayas, rings true in its entirety. In 2017, Govt. of India has been set up the Island Development Agency (IDA) to strengthen fundamental structure. This study analyzes the articles pertaining to the significance of good governance in promoting sustainable tourism in India. In accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, a systematic literature review approach was employed in this study. As the present study is based on secondary data, Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environment, and Legal (PESTEL) model has been used to analyze sustainable tourism development in India. The study depicts the conclusions and findings derived from this analysis. 7S framework and SWOT analysis were used to identify patterns of good governance. A comprehensive analysis was conducted on a total of 100 peer-reviewed journal papers spanning the period from 2014 to 2024. Based on our comprehensive review analysis, it has been determined that the implementation of appropriate measures within a framework of good governance has the potential to effectively foster the sustainable development of tourism in India. The above-mentioned analyses of numerous case studies, research papers, articles, and Government report show the growth and development pattern of tourism in India. Based on previous studies, the researcher has prepared a conceptual model depicting the relationship between the dimensions of the theme.
