This study aims to systematically analyse academic production over the last decade (2013–2023) on the broad topic of digital citizenship, with specific attention to works that address gender issues in the context of the European Union. Firstly, we used the systematic analysis method to review the academic production related to digital literacy and gender in the European Union. We then conducted a content analysis to examine the nature and scope of the works. The results of this approach allowed us to quantify and visualise trends over time, identifying important milestones and gaps to be studied in future research. We conclude that an intersectional feminist focus on digital citizenship is crucial, particularly in addressing groups – such as migrants, racialised communities and people with disabilities – who are not yet fully covered by academic production but face significant challenges in accessing digital technologies and digital citizenship.
