First page of Decolonizing the Accounting Curriculum

Decolonization is being discussed within certain business schools. There have been various webinars held over recent years seeking to explore the nature of decolonization and its intersection with the curriculum.1 Additionally, an article was recently published by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) to acknowledge and advocate for decolonization within business schools (Everett, 2023). While this position is not a formal statement from the AACSB, it does indicate an appetite to engage with this issue. These conversations are being carried out concurrently with calls by various journals for submissions interrogating diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging issues centering the topic of race (Ghio et al., 2023). The common driver within the space of education appears to be the desire to uncenter white, Western knowledge and thus decolonize. The difficulty however has been in identifying appropriate alternative paths forward that will be inclusive of all currently marginalized perspectives.
