First page of Introduction

According to an organic process linked to the presence of human communities in a place and the activities they carry out there, the territory of the living spaces changes. Thus, the various development actions, whether they concern the territory or its infrastructures, are generated from the need to order living together, taking into account hygiene, mobility, security, economic framework, efficiency of networks and public facilities, protection and conservation of natural and built resources and many other considerations. As societies evolve, the territorial impacts of demographic, social, economic and technological growth diversify and change while generating more pressure on living environments and creating territorial inequalities. Alongside the negative effects, new social demands emerge, giving rise to trends that create new relationships between human activity and habitable space, and in which the great challenges of peoples’ development are located. Poorly regulated, the various forms of growth, particularly demographics, have negative consequences that have a direct impact on the quality of life and the prospects for the evolution of spaces and societies. With the passage of time and political priorities, the countries of the global south face major development challenges so as not to hinder their evolution. This second chapter presents innovative, courageous and hopeful experiences as game-changers by relying on confidence in people and the desire to live better.
