In this special section, we include three chapters that address important issues related to doctoral programs. For those who are considering entering a doctoral program, a key decision is choosing a doctoral program that fits with the candidate’s long-term goals. In the first chapter of this special section, Brink and Quick provide a guide to some of the key factors that those who are planning to enter an accounting doctoral program should consider. Surveying current doctoral students from 60 different programs in the United States, the authors compare programs on a variety of dimensions, including curriculum, research support, and teaching expectations. The information they’ve gathered should prove valuable to anyone considering entering an accounting doctoral program as well as any faculty member who is approached by students seeking advice about entering an accounting doctoral program.
