This study treats weathered soils of pumiceous elastics. Samples are characterized by high porosity, high water content and inhomogeneous nature of physical properties. Direct shear box tests were conducted on undisturbed samples. It was discussed how the void ratio affects the strength as well as the normal stress applied. As a conclusion it was shown that the shear strength of specimens artificially over-consolidated tends to be lower than natural specimens for a given void ratio.
