The theme of the conference is 'moving people in tomorrow's world' by means of urban transport.

However, although the technology is available for the development of appropriate transport facilities, in many instances the money i s not. Do the Authors think that money should be made available to the developing countries in the form of grants or loans (viz. W. Owen)?

A major part of the various papers' themes - as suggested by the conference's title - is related to the mobility function of public transport, taking into account the enormous physical pressures which the unprecedented population growth -a s projected by all demographic studies - mainly in the socalled developing world, will exert on transport planning. However, precisely because of these growth pressures, attention i s drawn here to the fact that public transport could do much more than cater for the mobility of the population, much more than merely to take people from A to B, or from i to j.
