To Authors presenting Papers on reinforced masonry: when presenting their Papers could they please include any information on how quality control was achieved with particular reference to damp-proof membranes and keeping cavities clear for concreting? Some pointers on how to proceed have been to
(a) use high slump concrete
(b) use superplasticizers
(c) use small (10 mm) aggregate
(d) saturate masonry to be grouted up to reduce suction Anybody who has demolished a hollow tile, wood wool, omnia
or other forms of floor construction involving permanent shutting will have seen the void indetectable by visual inspection. Mr Mottershaw admitted that daylight could be seen through the Forticrete blockwork after grouting.
