First page of Discussion: Design and performance of reactor components and structures

Dr. K. Anderko asked Dr. Fohl, who had presented the invited paper which opened the session, whether he could give some details of end-of-life simulation treatments. Dr. Fohl said that chemical conposition, melting procedure and heat treatment had been varied so that the tensile properties, charpy energy and fracture toughness corresponded to values determined for irradiated materials.

Dr. K.M. Swanson asked Mr. Rouault (Paper 39) whether the diffusion coefficients on the inside and outside surfaces of the cladding were the same. Mr. Rouault said that Electron Microprobe analysis had not permitted the measurement of local carbon concentration values smaller than 800 ppm. It had therefore not been possible to determine carbon concentration profiles and effective diffusion coefficients near the outer surface of the clad.
