BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES GEOFFREY S R HUNTER

Prior to the reorganisation of Local Government in 1974, Mr Hunter was involved in the feasibility, design and construction of motorway, trunk and major road projects for the West Riding of Yorkshire County Council. His responsibilities included conducting specification trials and research into developing techniques to cater for abnormal engineering and climatic conditions. He subsequently became Chief Resident Engineer for the Trans-Pennine section of the M62 motorway and nominated engineer for motorways within the MERCU sub-unit.

In 1974 he took up the post of Chief Engineer (Transportation and Environment) within the new West Yorkshire Metropolitan County Council and in 1978 was appointed Executive Director (Traffic and Transportation) to the Authority. As Chief Officer he was responsible for advising on policy matters relating to traffic and highways and for budgetary and financial control. His responsibilities also included developing transport strategies and research and development of new technology.
