NPCIL aims at producing power at reasonable rate without affecting flora and fauna. To meet this goal, many innovative techniques are being developed and adopted while constructing main plant civil structures. For the power to be at reasonable rate to the consumer, the construction period has to be reduced. With this objective in mind, self-compacting concrete (SCC) has been developed and being used on-going NPCIL Projects. SCC will enable faster construction by increasing pour sizes and also will give enhanced quality. This paper covers the efforts made in developing mixture proportioning, qualifying the same by conducting full scale mock-ups and actual implementation of the concept in construction of various structural elements of Nuclear Power Plant Buildings. However, more stress has been given on mock-ups and implementation aspects.
