First page of Going Beyond “Add Women Then Stir”
Fostering Feminist Leadership

This chapter takes an interrogatory approach to offer critical questions that challenge how existing systems and structures constrain women’s experience of leadership. Critical feminist theory and the culturally relevant leadership learning (CRLL) model serve as our frameworks. Critical scholars accept that knowledge is situated in the larger social and political world and think that it is dangerous to ignore that embeddedness. As a response, we would like to briefly introduce ourselves as authors, learners, and knowers. We share this information to describe some of our own positionalities, identities, and epistemologies and how these facets shape our views of gender, leadership, and our contribution to this volume.
