First page of The Next Frontier
Virtual Environments for Socially Just Leadership Education

Leadership is necessary to address the dynamic and complex challenges of today’s multicultural and interconnected world; particularly leadership reflective of diverse perspectives and varied contexts. Socially just leadership education prepares future generations to create positive change and support the development of a fair and more just world by including, empowering, and promoting diverse voices which previously have been ignored in leadership development literature (Guthrie & Chunoo, 2018). While integrating social justice concepts are an essential component of reframing the dominant narrative of leadership education, another shift is required—seeing leadership and leadership development as primarily a face-to-face, colocated phenomena. It is not just how leadership education is practiced that should be a core consideration of today’s leadership practitioners, scholars, and students, but also where.
