I had always wanted to be a hairdresser. From age 3 or 4, I’d imagined myself in front of a mirror with a blow dryer in my left hand and barrel brush in my right, wearing red lipstick, having long nails, and owning my own store. I have a natural talent for styling hair, as well as for making people feel better about themselves, which was really what drew me to the profession. So, how did I end up in front of a SmartBoard with a calculator?
I am the product of two very analytical parents who pride themselves on their mathematical abilities. That being said, it was only natural that growing up, I had a lot of “math confidence.” It had always been my favorite subject. Although, neither of my parents went to college, and I had no intentions of being the first one in my family to attend, I knew that if I wanted to be a successful business owner, I needed to be fluent in the language of mathematics.
