From an historical perspective, African Americans/Black people exude resiliency. We have had to endure horrendous atrocities and conditions in different environments to survive. Historically, these experiences are documented. It is fascinating to ascertain people’s strength which continues to embody light and resistance. Many in the African American or Black community continue to move forward despite traumatic episodes, incidents, and experiences. As Meyer (2020) observes:
Given this history, it should be clear that the capacity of non-immigrant Africans in America, those enslaved as chattel who built this country’s wealth and their progeny, to survive and oft times thrive in the worst of human circumstances is beyond remarkable, and possibly the miracle of modern times.
