Black males have received increased academic and policy attention in recent years, even prompting the creation of a White House Initiative (My Brother’s Keeper) under the Obama Presidential administration. Black males are often discussed within the larger context of Black students, depicted as a simple dichotomous group of men and women. This can obscure the ongoing and deeply specific nuances that operate within and across ethnicity and gender in the Black community. It is our desire to add an additional lens for analyzing and understanding Black student populations across ethnicity and gender within race. We disaggregate by ethnicity to better understand the complexities hidden within aggregate level statistics.
