First page of “Castle in Box”
How Immersion and Rational Reflection Work Together for Effective Intervention

Drama in education (DiE), as a means of educational intervention, regards human beings as social beings. It strives to launch a world of imagination by drama activities. Through these activities, participants can renew their understanding about the relationship between self and the world, and reconstruct their perception about reality. In the powerful world of imagination, participants can be involved at the level of both feeling and thinking, which is rarely seen in other interventional methods. The dialectical relationship between immersion and distancing to the world of imagination is the key point for DiE. It has caused lots of debates among different researchers. This study tried to have a deeper understanding of the relationship between immersion and distancing through analyzing an intervention practice by DiE.
