This chapter examines a Black woman’s personal journey doing field work about African American women teachers’ pedagogical practices in the 1964 Mississippi Freedom Schools1. Through excerpts from a qualitative research journal, the author provides insight on what Black women teacher-leaders can learn from studying and working alongside other Black women teacher-leaders. This chapter incorporates the dimensions of Black feminist theory and the ways in which it can be used as both a theoretical framework as well as a tool for data analysis to develop implications for practice.
