First page of Using Growth Mindset to Gage Racial Disproportionality in School Discipline

In 2016, the United States Department of Education released key data highlights from the 2013–2014 Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC). The CRDC is a survey of all schools in the United States that measure varied aspects of educational impact ranging from school climate to student access including student discipline. Results of the survey yielded a profound and important fact that students of color, students with disabilities, and English language learners (ELLs) receive significantly more school suspensions and expulsions than other students (Loschert, 2016). This reality begs for further review of the literature in order to create formidable actions plans initiating awareness and change in underserved students, in particular, ELLs.
