First page of Time for Action

As we look forward, it is evident that there will be global challenges and evolving landscapes for anti-racist work. This is why the issues of critical hope and critical joy raised by scholars and throughout the text are necessary for our existence and to dream of what is possible when individuals seek critical consciousness. This text furthers conversations that have been foundational such as the Guthrie and Chunoo (2018) text, Changing the Narrative: Socially Just Leadership Education, and the follow-up book by Guthrie and Chunoo (2021), Shifting the Mindset: Socially Just Leadership Education. These texts invite thinking around socially just leadership education contexts and offer reflective critiques of widely taught concepts in leadership learning. We proceed in this fashion but also offer a consideration of how anti-racism is an opportunity to deconstruct the ways leadership education has been colonized and whitewashed throughout history and reimagine what it can look like in the future. Further, we provide reflective questions for readers to join in this deconstruction and deeply personal work to have critical hope toward a new future.
