This chapter shares the journey, frameworks and contexts the authors used to integrate design thinking, maker experiences, and introductory science and engineering lessons for those in an education course exploring the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and teaching in formal and informal spaces. We discuss design thinking and mini-maker experiences across other subjects. Although a swift transition to online and hybrid platforms (and back to online at times) was difficult, it provided an opportunity for integrating design thinking and elements of maker education with the NGSS to center student experiences and places of learning.
