My experience as a scholar studying race in organizations provides insight into the challenges and opportunities of research in this field. Two core themes—isolation and connection across racial differences—characterized the fundamental challenge and the ultimate saving grace for my research and career. Building on these themes, I suggest two areas of inquiry that would further our understanding of racial dynamics in contemporary organizations and guide actions that could support thriving for Black people and their non-Black colleagues.
