There exist few elements in the world as ubiquitous with everyday life as religion. Its presence permeates almost all corners of life and impacts the experiences of hundreds of millions of people on a daily basis. Regardless of a person’s views on religion and spirituality or their experiences with religion in the past, it is almost impossible to avoid the effect religion has on society. From the laws that are created based on the morals and ethics of lawmakers to daily conversations with peers and adults to the curriculum designed and implemented in schools (Burke & Segall, 2011), religion is at the heart of most everything that occurs in society.
