Section 8 focuses on depicting the historical use of child labor and the inequity and inequality that stemmed from it. While child labor may be less prevalent in Western society today than it was at the turn of the 20th century, students need to have a better understanding of how children were exploited in a variety of industries. This depth of knowledge will allow them to better understand current labor laws and unions, and how we have gotten where we are today. A natural connection can be made to the current state of child labor worldwide. Teachers can use these Hollywood films to springboard into these challenging discussions in their classrooms.
