First page of People’s Republic of China: Navigating Historical Currents
Reflections of a Chinese-Born Global Educator

In this chapter I will share the lived experiences of my professional and personal journey between East and West as I have traveled thousands of miles over decades between China and the United States. I will share my stories chronologically by applying the basic concept of sociology that our position in our social structure and historical currents create visible and invisible forces that push us towards our career paths, worldviews, and interactions with people in our lives. Factors such as gender, race, ethnicity, class, age, religion, residential locations, family background, and nationality, together with other aspects of our identity, blend together in shaping who we are as we navigate historical currents.
