Chapter 13: Using Participant Photography to Empower Rural Voice in Educational Research

This chapter explores the potential of using participant photography as a research method in rural educational settings. Participant photography, a photo elicitation methodology, has a powerful opportunity to empower participants to direct the research. Moreover, it can provide a critical tool for scholars to combat the impacts of urbanormativity in education research. The potential of participant photography is explored through an example study conducted in rural Western Kansas.
