First page of Waiting for the other Shoe to Drop

It was 7:20 a.m., and I was on the phone live with a local talk radio host being interviewed about a story that had appeared in The Denver Post the previous day. The story revealed that the Denver police department had kept secret files on some 3,200 Denver residents; I was one of those individuals. As I answered the radio host’s questions, I was conscious of fellow teachers in my office listening in on my end of the conversation and looking at me with an expression that said, “Who are you talking to?” I thought I would get bombarded with questions when I hung up the phone, as well as throughout the day when news of my stint on the radio spread. I thought I was in the midst of one of those teachable moments where the media would hand me my lesson plan for the day. However, that was not to be the case.
