This chapter addresses the unique compensation needs of virtual organizations. A review of the literature suggests that various forms of virtual organizations may require tailored reward systems. We present different reward system strategies to accommodate the special needs of horizontal organizations, network organizations, alliances, and cellular organizations. Implications for future research and practice are discussed.
