Traditional methods of job analysis and competency assessment do not meet the needs of the virtual organization. Virtual organizations and the jobs that make up these organizations have much more dynamic needs than the traditional organization. There is very little time or tolerance for traditional forms of competency assessment and job analysis in the virtual organization. So what will work? The core purpose of job analysis and competency assessment is still very necessary for workers and organizations. This chapter examines virtual organizations, what needs they have in the areas of job analysis and competency assessment, and how traditional forms of job analysis may be altered to better fit the special needs of the virtual organization.
