First page of Reconsidering Race and Education in the Era of Globalization
A New Perspective

We are living in a time when the whole field of race and racial antagonism is being stirred up by powerful forces of narrow-minded cultural exceptionalism and anti-globalism. We must be always aware of a broader picture of economic, cultural and ideological entailments as political elites on both sides of the Atlantic form a pact with supremacism, finding it politically useful to disqualify marginalized subjects in society by ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality and nationality. We must be alert to get beyond simplistic and essentialist responses to these developments and read racial dynamics into a broader theatre of connections in which there is a constant play of contradictions. We must not cut off the analysis of racial dynamics from the broader policy environment in which so much is at stake.
