First page of Claflin University and Student Success Data

The Praxis testing is an important gauge for pre-service teachers to gain teacher candidacy status as discussed in Chapter 1. Taylor is an example of our successful pre-service teachers. Yet, we have pre-service teachers who are also faced with challenges in passing Praxis tests to gain teacher candidacy. This book is intended to promote the academic success of the pre-service teachers by seeking contributing factors. The contents from Chapters 3 to 10 discuss data on the learning experiences of the preservice teachers at the eight institutions. Academic success is particularly related to gaining teacher candidacy in order to become certified teachers. This chapter focuses on data collected by Claflin University and on how its pre-service teachers interpret success and failure from their perspectives in order to promote the academic success of the pre-service teachers. This contributes to the purpose of this book by examining the learning experiences of the preservice teachers at Claflin University and by interpreting how both teacher candidates and noncandidates felt about their learning experiences from their perspectives in order to understand them and better serve them.
