Chapter 3: Working With John

As I sit here at my “summer desk”—a card table wedged into the bedroom of our summer camp in the Maine woods—I am surrounded by reminders of my friend and colleague, John Lounsbury:

As you read these heartfelt tributes to and memories of John in this volume, you will hear about many of the close relationships he had with so many people. I was fortunate to know John for more than 40 years. For nearly 20 years, I was fortunate to work with John and Mary Mitchell, who graciously and enthusiastically embraced me when I joined them to work on NMSA publications. One thing that I do not understand even now is that over the years I definitely got older (and eventually retired) but John never did either!
