Article 39

For over three years, I had watched the news, read multiple newspapers—foreign and domestic—horrified daily, by every depraved decision made by the Trump administration. Long before COVID-19, I had ceased imagining that somehow, he had finally reached the absolute darkest recesses of his soul and stopped wondering how much worse things could get.

For years, I watched as friends, already in a fragile place in this society, grew more anxious, more fearful, as not only their rights were eroded, but as an assault on their humanity—on their very being and existence—was waged every day.

For years, I watched as students, pre-service teachers, were deeply impacted by the policies implemented by the Trump administration—by decisions pertaining to DACA, and by the violence, racism, and hatred spewed from the White House, from Twitter, and other social media platforms, that resulted in paralyzing fear and anxiety.
