W. Richards (Rick) Adrion is a professor emeritus of computer science in the University of Massachusetts Amherst, College of Information and Computer Sciences. Following a long career in software engineering research and education, Adrion helped develop and has led a number of initiatives that focused on broadening participation in computer science. These included the Commonwealth Information Technology Initiative (CITI), the NSF BPC Commonwealth Alliance for Information Technology Education (CAITE), and the NSF BPC Expanding Computing Education Pathways (ECEP) Alliance. Currently he leads an NSF-funded research practice partnership of UMass Amherst; Five Colleges, Inc.; SageFox Consulting Group; and the Springfield Massachusetts Public Schools that is introducing integrated, equitable, and standards-based computational thinking curricula across 33 K-5 elementary schools. Adrion is a fellow of the ACM and AAAS.
