Existing in a global village means the enabling of a multiplicity of cultures and subcultures to coexist to ensure that everyone feels valued and respected. But this is not always the case as the global village has given rise to increase injustices amongst countries and within countries (United Nations, 2006) and not all elements of society are understood and given the freedom to exercise the power that resides in all voices. Therefore, as the world becomes one global village, issues of social justice are at the forefront of society requiring the need to confront them. Confronting such issues may be highly problematic since people may understand social justice differently (Taysum & Gunter, 2008). Education and schooling therefore become key tools for creating awareness of social injustice and equipping the populace with the necessary skills to achieve social justice ideals.
