Since entering my teacher credential program, the recognition that I’ve been schooled my whole life and not educated has not stopped circling around in my mind. I realized that I’ve just always been a good student and not a good learner, and now I’m rethinking what it even means to be an effective teacher. I need to unlearn a lot of my own habits and perceptions about education before I go on critiquing it. I need to reflect on what I have believed it to mean to be educated. I think that question actually came to me when I started college, way before I decided to become a teacher. My college experience definitely made me rethink what the purpose of going to school was for.
