The systematic and systemic impact of colonized education impacts us all well beyond our K–12 years. Like many parents, the academic goals, and expectations I set for my children were rooted in my own schooling experiences and understandings. From my earliest childhood memories through adulthood, those learned seeds of conditioning became the blueprint for my parenting practice. Authentic learning is not wrapped within the convention of classism, elitism, entitlement, and disempowerment so readily found within the traditional schoolhouse. For me, learning embodies every aspect of our being, naturally disrupting those conventions we have been indoctrinated to center and uphold.
