This chapter will chronicle the journey of how one state rose to the challenge faced by colleges and universities nationwide to prepare teachers to meet the needs of 21st century learners in an age of authentic portfolio assessment. The purpose of this chapter is to share our stories of implementing the Educative Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA) across a wide range of institutions of higher education (IHE) contexts as part of a statewide collaborative. First, we will discuss the creation and function of our statewide collaborative. Next, we will share individual experiences and insights from three of the participating universities. This will provide an overview of the early exploration of edTPA at Salisbury University, the development of a lesson plan template and professional development model at Notre Dame of Maryland University, and a summary of related challenges and opportunities at Morgan State University.
