Chapter 8: Your Road Map to the edTPA

Completing an edTPA, in addition to the many expectations of student teaching, can make any student teacher feel overwhelmed and lost. To help student teachers find their way, this chapter provides a road map to the edTPA. This road map is a lesson plan template that has been carefully designed by an edTPA scorer who wanted to help her student teachers anticipate the many demands of all edTPA tasks during the planning phase. In this chapter, student teachers will learn how to use this lesson plan template to navigate not only the lesson plan requirements of Task 1, but also to prepare for the execution of these lessons in Task 2 and to carefully design your assessment for Task 3. The template can be used, with the content-specific modifications described in this chapter, for any of the 27 edTPA subject areas, including a streamlined version of the template for elementary education’s Task 4.
