The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), one of the most influential organizations focusing on human rights and globalization under the United Nation (UN) for over 70 years, has at its foundation that human rights are fundamental rights for all people on Earth to be able to live as full human beings. Integral to that belief has been the development of frameworks for advocating and practicing human rights so that every human being is able to live in and contribute to society without any malicious penalties because of where they were born and who they are. These ideas are based on humanistic and progressive thought that considers all people to be essentially good. Human rights ensure everyone is fully able to participate in society to make it better for all (Kruger et al., 2015), to contribute to society to make it better (Armstrong et al., 2010), and to advance social justice in society. This fundamental notion of human rights is important because it gives us a mutual understanding that we as global citizens have the potential to contribute to the global society with harmony and peace.
