First page of Worrying, Wording, and Worlding

My rumination is of a worrying, wording, worlding sort. I am troubled with the way we name students, communities, and school districts in sometimes careless and unthinking ways that produce ontologies of both promise and peril. We name a school as failing, or a school district as stellar, or a community as working class, or a group of students as falling behind. While grouping and naming is what we have been taught to do as educators to facilitate the development of curriculum and pedagogy that “fits” for a classification of those who are named, we aren’t always taught to consider the potential lasting effects and the worlds that such naming brings forth.
