In 2017, there were approximately 258 million migrants around the world, an increase of almost 50 percent since the turn of the millennium (UN General Assembly [UNGA], 2018). Furthermore, as globalization continues and the interconnectedness of the world’s countries increases, so does the value of being able to adapt to different cultures (Ozer, 2017). It is vital that we understand how to thrive within cultures other than that of our country of origin and promote the integration of migrants wherever they settle. This chapter reviews types of migrants; challenges faced by migrants, particularly related to adaptation and acculturation; behavioral research on the inclusion and well-being of migrants; and interventions that promote well-being and adaptation of migrants.
