First page of Global Digital Citizenship

When thinking about the role technology might play in transforming and providing a more equitable learning experience, one must certainly consider the importance of equitable access. However, having access to technology does not ensure that a learner has equitable access, as there are many factors that can create barriers for some learners. If learners are barred from equitable access to technology, which can provide access to resources, knowledge, and opportunities, it hinders their ability to acquire their fair share of the societal benefits technology provides. This chapter will look at the notion of an enhanced view of digital citizenship in terms of supporting equitable access to technology from a more global and socially responsible perspective. The chapter will discuss not just teaching students how to be good digital citizens, but also the importance of being good global digital citizens.
