I am a college graduate and full-time master’s student from a single-parent home who realizes the value of an education based on the help of many people. I have been given many valuable blessings and lessons thanks to the help of those inside and outside my home. Many people have reached out to help my mom and I in my journey. I have always remained humble, gracious and extremely thankful for that. The story of my life is far from the shriek for help that it might easily have been. The attitude is one of cheerfulness. The purpose of my life has been to live throughout the trials and tribulations, so that I can I endure to tell others that there is hope with living in a single-parent homes. Reflecting on my life over the past month has made me look at life differently. I often ask myself the question. Is this genuinely my life? I ask that because, growing up, I had no idea I would be where I am today, based off my environments. Growing up in a singleparent home, you have so many obstacles you have to overcome. I have earned every step that I take along the way. My personal pride directs me to strive for excellence. However, as warmhearted as I am, I am always willing to put my personal mission aside to help my family and other people in my life. As you read this chapter it will give you insight into my family background, memorable moments, lessons learned from a single parent, and words of advice to the teachers and policymakers.
