First page of Memory Lost
An Unknowing Journey Through Seasons

I grew up in New Haven, Connecticut for the first 13 years of life. In those years, I really have only a dozen memories of my childhood, seemingly one memory for each year. I vaguely remember moving from the projects to rented houses. I definitely remember attending more successful schools than the ones in my neighborhood, predominately White schools that made me feel even more different than I already thought I was. I know that I attended those schools, but I can’t remember how I got there—definitely by bus, but I can’t really remember the rides, the stops, those things that come along with the journey. None of those memories have any inclusion of my father.
