Dear Families,
As we continue to build our classroom community and celebrate our differences that make us special, we will be exploring race and culture. The topics of race and culture will be discussed and introduced as a way to explain diversity and identity. We will watch two clips. One is a scenario clip on a “what would you do?” situation where teenagers are giving their peers a hard time due to racial differences in a restaurant. The second clip is from the movie Hidden Figures, and focuses on how an employee isn’t allowed to use the restroom in the building she works in because it is designated for “only white” employees. Part of our study will include exploring historical documents such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which prohibits discrimination. The use of primary and secondary sources will support our exploration into race and culture. Links to the resources are included below for your review:
