The use of centrifuge modelling to analyse the pile group behaviour is very useful to geotechnical designers. A research program for these studies was carried out on the L.C.P.C. centrifuge at Nantes. The program relates to simple pile groups. Different configurations were tested such as pairs of piles (in-line and side-by-side) and three-piles in a group. Single piles are tested as reference. All piles are considered as bored piles in sand submitted to a lateral loading. Measurements were made and concern the displacements at three levels : on the pile top and at ground level, and the lateral load. Some couples were instrumented with an extensometric strip in order to determine the bending moments. Efficiency of pile groups and other results are discussed.
