The successful development and enhancement of recreational and amenity activities on flood storage ponds in urban catchments depends upon extending the scope of the hydrological and hydraulic criteria normally applied in their engineering design. The improvement of water quality and ecology within the pond can be achieved through the application of a variety of management procedures relating to landscaping, the status of the surrounding land and the configuration of inlet and outlet control structures.
