First page of USACE Adaptation Approach for Future Coastal Climate Conditions and Total Water Level Impacts

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) plays a major role in the effectiveness of coastal risk management within the United States. Based on lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and subsequent events, including the Mississippi River flood of 2011, the 2012-2014 droughts, and Hurricane Sandy in 2012, USACE has worked to improve our understanding of climate change and its impacts to our missions and operations within the coastal zone. USACE is mainstreaming climate preparedness and resilience with a focus on priority areas. We engage in external collaboration to improve our understanding of climate change impacts and vulnerabilities so that we can develop new policy and guidance to support adaptation implementation based on the best available and actionable science.
