Synopsis
This paper will cover the investigations undertaken at a number of embankment dams after concerns were raised regarding high leakage flows. Two geophysical survey methods, Controlled Source Audio-Frequency Domain Magnetics and temperature sensing, were utilised to investigate potential leakage paths through the embankments. The results of these investigations were used in the design of targeted geotechnical investigations to inform the need for remedial works.
The paper will present the case studies, describe the investigations, discuss the application constraints of the two survey methods and draw conclusions about their suitability and limitations.
